SCOUTING

The Third Cardinal Principle

Encompassed under the third cardinal principle of service, scouting has a more niche focus. Alpha Phi Omega was originally founded on the principles derived from the scout oath and maintains ties with the Boy Scouts of America.

In the Iota Lambda chapter, our scouting events include those involving the scouts, the environment and the outdoors, children, and the elderly. We regularly volunteer at boys and girls club, an after-school mentorship program serving wake county school children. In Fall 2024 we began volunteering with Glenaire nursing home in downtown Cary, working with elderly residents with Alzheimer’s and Dementia.

Additionally, we volunteer with city of Raleigh to help with a multitude of events involving nature. These events include mulching, invasive species removals, and much more. APO regularly collects trash around campus, in the rocky branch creek, and at local lakes. By picking up a large amount of waste every semester we are helping to create a better space for everyone. In the month of March, APO will be adopting a trash trap, which is a cage-like structure that sits in a stream helping collect debris. In these ways, our chapter strives to help create a cleaner and more sustainable environment.
